amen, amen

A dated but nonetheless deep and interesting dive into “the worlds most important six second drum loop” by Nate Harrison.

This fascinating, brilliant 20-minute video narrates the history of the “Amen Break,” a six-second drum sample from the b-side of a chart-topping single from 1969. This sample was used extensively in early hiphop and sample-based music, and became the basis for drum-and-bass and jungle music — a six-second clip that spawned several entire subcultures. Nate Harrison’s 2004 video is a meditation on the ownership of culture, the nature of art and creativity, and the history of a remarkable music clip.

Jay-E x The New Royales

The New Royales, which consists of DJ Khalil, Chin Injeti, Liz Rodrigues and Erik Alcock, are currently working with Jay Electronica on a new EP and the project promises to bring a refreshing outlook on the hip-hop game for sure. Check it.

The New Royales x Jay Electronica- "Posers"

Hottest rappin’ in the Chi, didn't you get the mem-o?

LA & S-Preme rip over the hot hip hop/electronica track with their undeniable verbal swag and lyrical style as they urge hip hop to wake up (maybe in light of Obamas view on the industry). All the while paying homage to the city most responsible for hip hop’s latest revival: Chicago!

LA (feat. S-Preme)- “Wake Up” (zshare)

Oh shit... watch out....
