Hyper color slap song

Anarchy in the streets

Well this is certainly... different. Dan Deacon is insane, and I am at peace with it because his insanity brings my cochlea much joy. The Baltimore native has just released another ear drum rupturing, brain tickling track. “Get Older” is the first single off of his upcoming album, Bromst which is due out on the 24th of March. This song is absolutely with out a doubt chaotic and agitating. With the absence of any form or function Mr. Deacon bombards us with a cacophony of sine waves, 8-bit synths and repetitive riffs made from the number of recycled and refurbished gizmos and gadgets he uses. What I really like about this song is that the flow of noise is unbelievably consistent. In this relentless fashion Dan Deacon holds a special place in my personal music list. If you go see him anytime in '09, the set will mainly be material off his new album, Bromst, which is coming out March 24th on Carpark Records. Oh boy! enjoy...

Radiohead remix

Radiohead held an online contest to remix "Nude" from their latest album In Rainbows. This video was created by James Houston based around the lyric (and alternate title) "Big Ideas: Don't get any". He grouped together a collection of old hardware, and "placed them in a situation where they're trying their best to do something that they're not exactly designed to do, and not quite getting there." It doesn't sound great, as it's not supposed to. However, the exposed hard drives create this very eerie melodic tone, very similar to the voice of front man Thom Yorke.

The growing music scene in Brooklyn is turning out indie produced hits after hits... and here's another great example. Brooklyn based electro-pop band Red Wire Black Wire released their debut EP Compass earlier this year and then in November re-released it with an added new dance stomper "Locked Out". They're a mixture of electro-pop and indie pop that is an irresistible auditory treat. Heard samples of the whole EP on amazon and there's not a bad one in the bunch. I'm gonna keep an eye on these guys. Maybe a debut album to look forward to later this year? Hopefully...

Here are a couple stellar tracks from Compass. If you crave more, and I know you do, check out the myspace...

Goofie shit

Here are Two new tracks are from a band called Japanese Cartoon that are buzzing around the Internez. Like 24 hours ago there was a rumor out that the band was supposedly fronted by Lupe Fiasco who was making music for the band under the alias Percival Fats (say what?). However, the new post-punk band have dismissed rumors that he is part of the group. After listening to the track, it doesn’t sound like him even in the least, considering the English accent the lead singer has. The band writes:
"Lupe does finance the band but is not, I repeat, not, the singer in Japanese Cartoon. He is, however, the producer and we value his participation very much."

Oh shit... watch out....

Mikkey Halsted

The Chicago emcee was the first artist signed to Kanye West’s Kon Man Productions and is one of, if not the most, ferocious lyricists in the city. Mikkey has been patiently waiting for his shot at hip hop domination. It seems his time has come...

Today
, Mikkey is a product of the Southside of Chicago's notorious Wild 100's section rapping about neighborhoods infested with drugs, guns, hoes, GDs, BDs, Stones and other troublesome things. Yet, he is a lyrical genius. If knowledge of his master’s degree in education does not hint at the extraordinary aptitude of his work then certainly the you will understand when you listen to his music.

Mikkey Halsted feat. Kaye Fox - "Karma" (Prod. by No ID). Karma is the second official leak from Mikkey's upcoming debut, Chicago: The Photo Album.

In the most recent edition of URB Magazine there is an article detailing a massive shout out from Lil' Wayne to Mikkey...

Having arguably the biggest rapper in the game, Lil Wayne, shouting you out as their inspiration and teacher in XXL Magazine is nothing to sneeze at. And that’s exactly what happened in the October ‘08 issue. Here’s to hoping Mikk gets that proper push he deserves in ’09, so he can catch up to his apprentice. "...But they had this one rapper. Mikkey. If anybody had me really get on my shit, [it's] Mikkey."

Miniture action whao!

Well, not really miniatures. Combining a variety of techniques including tilt-shift and time-lapse photography, the work done by Sydney based photographer, Keith Loutit, is just mesmerizing. I can't stop watching. Every time you watch one of his movies you find yourself noticing something different or new. Although these videos are not scripted or choreographed, in some of them, the soundtrack is good enough to trigger some emotion.

Silence like the wind over takes me...

With a tabletop full of eclectic gizmos, a sine wave generator, a makeshift light board, and a green skull strobe light, Deacon mixes dance anthems, intricate instrumentals, and humorous monologues to create an all-out dance-til-you-drop experience.

Most of the pieces composed by Dan Deacon are instrumentals or sound collages. However Spiderman of the Rings was Deacon's first commercially distributed full length album, released in May 2007.

Dan Deacon is famed for his live shows. Shunning the stage, Deacon performs from within the audience, his musical devices being set up on a low table, and surrounded by the crowd. His live performances involve constant audience participation, often requiring the attendees to perform physical tasks and games as a whole during the songs, like opening a big circle and ask two people to dance in it.
