Acid Girls

Acid Girls have released a steady stream of remixes or decent quality over the the past couple years, some worth listening to, and some not. Now we hear that the Los Angeles duo are set to release their first single to the world on September 1st. I mean second if you count "The Number Song” from earlier this summer.

“The Numbers Song” pretty much sums up everything expected from Acid Girls... a bit playful, a bit experimental but their stuff is still total club and totally top shelf

Lollapalooza: Day 3

Damn, it's day 3 and i'm ready to kick it! Feeling fly. Its barely noon and its already tipping 100 on the heat index, i'm sure of it. First up was the most awesome and inspiring Bat for Lashes, needless to say we in the crowd were wowed and she went through song after song just laying into each and every note. However, the Street Index noticed something out of the ordinary while at the performance, During one of her songs (it might have been "Siren Song" or "Wizard") that she hit the climax and on the peaking note on that climax the most massive gust of wind just through the crowd and past Natasha in her most fantastic sequenced leotard and flew open the back of the stage. It was utterly amazing! She even commented on it in an interview with Billboard.

On from there we drifted towards the Chicago 2016 stage were we drank some, and sat some, and danced some to the Airborne Toxic Event. But once again, all of a sudden, we found our selves back at the Vitaminwater stage for Dan Deacon and his traveling band of...well, band members. I love Dan's music. There just isn't any expectations except for audience participation.

At one moment during the performance we were all instructed to point to a phallic looking balloon and then to place our hands on the head of the person in front of us and to suck out all the negative energy and release it into the cosmos. Another interactive thing we did was to participate on a kneeling interpretive dance lead by the bus driver, Geoff. A circle was created and the crowd was challenged to mimic him as he moved around. His offering to the weather gods for such sunny weather was trash. Suddenly Deacon took to his synths, sine wave oscillator, distorters and his mic and slammed the crowd with a rousing rendition of Crystal Cat. With that the libation was sent sailing into the air! Vitamin Water bottles, beer cans and cigarette packs rained down and the dancing began again with great glee. what fun!

The party traveled up the slope and stopped in front of Citi Stage where there was a massive crowd lined up for Passion Pit. At 5:00 on the dot the gang let loose their ecstatic electro-pop upon a crowd of the willing. The street was packed with everyone dancing, it was an awesome show!

Snoop Kicked it for us old school slipping onto the stage the crowd went nuts. He's been doing the same act for years now but that shit was tight. Hands up, heads bopping like... pass that!

The Killers brought Vegas to the masses last night as they closed out the 13th Lollapalooza festival under Chicago’s skyline. Fake palm trees, neon lights, and flashy visuals turned the Chicago 2016 into Sin City for just under an hour and a half as Brandon Flowers belted out hits like “Human”, “Bones”, and the obvious “Mr. Brightside”. The show should have been advertised as a 16-song sing-a-long as the roughly 40,000 screaming fans were singing along to all the obvious singles. After briefly leaving the stage on the conclusion of “All These Things That I’ve Done”, the guys came back out adding two songs, “Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine” and “When You Were Young”, to their setlist.

The sun, long gone, and the last note, fading out, Lollapalooza had ended. If you weren't at Lolla this year, I would advise you to make it a priority next year. To those who were there, never let the party end.

I will end the post and thus the recap like this and leave you with a quote now.....

Lollapalooza: Day 2

Saturday started off for us with Atmosphere at 2:45 at the Chicago 2016 stage. Slug and Ant got the crowd hyped mid-afternoon as the heat index started pushing 100 degrees! We here at the Street Index were missing the rain of Friday. Ant kicked out his lackadaisical bass-heavy beats while Slug flexed his lyrical prowess with astute rhymes. The setlist included hard pounding hits like “God Loves Ugly”, “Saves The Day” and “Modern Man’s Hustle”. The highlight of the set came with “Trying to Find a Balance”. Over all, it was a good start to the day.

Chairlift played the Citi Stage on Saturday at 3:30, and were unfortunately faced with sound problems. The first song, an unlikely, but much enjoyed, cover of Snoop Dogg's "Sensual Seduction," (complete with a rap by guitarist, Polachek). The lively "Evident Utensil" was next, still with spotty sound. Fortunately, the audio situation improved after that, with "Bruises" sounding fantastic. Even with the problems, I and the crowd seemed overly happy to soak in the group's vibe.

However, during the set, some 17 years young girl was off to the side passed out and puking. luckily avid reader and friend of the Index, Caroline, snapped to action! We think partying is fun... but be smart about it!

Santogold came on late, but made up for it when she melted the faces of suburbanites, frat boys and other Bud Lime drinkers with her swagger. People actually started dancing ontop of the sound booth halfway up the permanent stage venue in grant park. WHOAA! Anyway she got the crowd dancing from the start. It was the last performance of her almost 2 year tour, she told us, so she got the party started right. "Hold the Line" was sick, "Brooklyn (Go Hard)" was nasty, "Shove It" was sick, Her cover of the Cure song "Killing in Arab" was sick, Her Performance of "L.E.S. Artistes" was sick, "Creator" was sick NASTY! Just not right the way she took the stage and just rocked it. Maybe next time she should get moved to a larger stage at a bigger venue. haha, shit! the amount of people there was insane!

I remember Lykke Li's performance having peaks of high energy, as well as well timed lulls in the action that typically would build to something epic and very soulful. She hit the faves playing "Little Bit" and "Breaking it Up". Also she debut a new song (which sampled what sounded like a full choir in it), very chill and very inspirational. She was joined onstage by fellow swede, Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow, to perform a heartfelt duet of KOL's "Knocked Up". however it proved to be simply an interlude to her rendition of Lil' Waynes "A Milli" which was freakin' amazing.

----WAS AWESOME----
..................No further comment on that one................

Yeah Yeah Yeahs took the Budweiser stage at Lollapalooza 8:30. Bringing in Karen O and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs as a last minute replacement for the Beastie Boys proved to be a great choice. The dance party didn’t really start until “Heads Will Roll” which got nearly the entire crowd jumping by the first line of the first chorus. SI feels the Yeah Yeah Yeahs more than filled the shoes of the Beastie Boys, a feat that seemed almost impossible when MCA and the boys had to drop out. Thanks Karen, you're the best.

............Day 2 down. 1 more to go.

Lollapalooza: Day 1

After getting a late start on the day, wasting time on a street corner outside of a 7/11, the Street Index arrived at Grant Park around 3:00 and obtained our bracelet, caught our bearings and prepared our bodies and minds for the rain. First caught some of Dark Wave Disco outside of Perry's to get the weekend kicked off on the right foot. The music began to fade and we began to wander towards south lolla and made our way to the front of the vitaminwater stage for some Crystal Castles. To our surprise, from our location, we were able to jam out to the end of STS9, but as the time drew near for Alice to rock, the aura of the crowd turned a hostile shade of grey. I'm sure it was just the weather acting in coordination with the prospects of Ethan's sick beats but it's presence was building. Chants of "Alice Alice Alice" were started by avid readers and contributes to the Index Ben and Caroline. then they came out starting with "Atlantis to Interzone" (Remix of Klaxxons) and the place went nuts. The crowd was whipped into a convulsion and the ground underneath was turned into a pulp from the moshing and jumping of ravers. When they played "Baptism", the crowd lost all sense of time and direction after that.

After that rager, the crew got about halfway to the Chicago 2016 stage for Thievery Corporation before we were sucked into a spontaneous dance party where we jammed to a tight fusion of sensual and passionate melodies. The sitar was sick and an created a very chill and very interesting change of pace from CC.

From there we got our dance on at Of Montreal where supposedly there were naked dancers (we were so far back we missed that!) They were a solid act but I wasn't feeling their set list of tracks off their earlier albums. Skeletal Lamping is top notch!

After a few more beers we made our way to Perry's for the rest of the night to catch Simian Mobile Disco, Crookers, and Kid Cudi. SMD was kinda disappointing simply because of the fact that they were working within a limited set stage. Crookers offered straight moshfest pumping out sick remixes of thunderstruck among others. One thing that struck me is that Crookers could have easily lead into Cudi with their "Day 'n Nite" (remix), unfortunately that was not the case (it came later on in Cudi's set, with some disappointing technical difficulties). However, Dat Moon Man killed with some mixtape hits and some album tracks. Shit was chill and serious at times but mostly it popped off especially when he hit the crowd with "I Poker Face".

It was a great first day... Stay tuned for more pictures and some more recap of days 2 & 3.
