Alice and Ethan = "Doe Deer" Single

Alright CC Fans! On April 17, Record Store Day, the band will return with a new single, the minute-and-a-half Alice Glass temper tantrum "Doe Deer" produced, obviously by mystery man Ethan Kath.

The "Doe Deer" 12" single is a Record Store Day exclusive, and it's coming via a joint venture between Fiction/Lies records. It'll come with three tracks that the band recorded in 2004, before they added psychotic electronic sounds to their repertoire. There won't be any CD or digital release, and it's limited to 500 copies which comes courtesy of Fiction/Lies record labels. Given that, you'll have to set your alarm pretty early if you want a chance to cop it. (check here for the closest store to you)
The track list is as follows:
A1 Doe Deer
A2 Mother Knows Best (2004 Guitar Version)
B1 Insectica (2004 Guitar Version)
B2 Seed (2004 Guitar Version)

Crystal Castles are finally done recording their sophomore album, and it will be ready for release in June (hopefully the first week!). This April, as you know, they'll pull out some new material at their 2 US shows which we here at SI are impatiently waiting to jam to.

Video for "Flash Delirium" by MGMT

Introducing “Flash Delirium” the debut video from MGMT’s sophomore album Congratulations. The video was directed by Andreas Nilsson and lends a visual clue into the maelstrom and chaos of modern times. Adding to their unique catalog of interesting images and music, MGMT continues to deliver earnest and unapologetically real music. Congratulations is in stores Tuesday April 13, 2010

It is made clear that this video has no purpose other than pure entertainment! Don't expect any music either...

A Banksy Film

The Coup de Grace coming. It was announced this morning that Banksy's first film, Exit Through The Gift Shop, will hit theaters in the United States beginning on Friday, April 16th in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Dates for additional cities across the country, including Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Atlanta, will be announced soon! Over the weekend Banksy also released the official "one sheet" poster for the film to the right. ------>

The movie stars Mr. Thierry Guetta, an overnight art-world sensation (or wholesale, bogus creation), who produces work under the tag name Mr. Brainwash. Check out the trailer for the movie below.

Banksy’s film, Exit through the Gift Shop (the title is a swipe at museum merchandising and the fetization of Art), has made Mr. Guetta something of a shooting star. Just in time for the film’s premiere, Mr. Brainwash has his own New York City gallery debut. In a two-floor space at 415 West 13th Street, he’s showing pricey gift-shop art in his show titled "Icons". So is this all an elaborate farce? There are two ways to determine that: on film and at the gallery. The show is extended through May- perhaps through June- maybe longer...

/-/-/ Jai Paul \-\-\

The UK’s answer to chillwave is finally here, or something akin to lo-production/high creative talent of Washed Out and Memory Tapes the hard edge technology sound that comes with a smattering of British musicians. They go by the name of Jai Paul and are composed of Jai himself and Anup Paul (of some relation i'm assuming). Driven by Dilla drums (maybe some early Streets?, some complementary midi sounds and dribbled with hints of Prince charming little dreamy harmonies, Jai Paul adds a slap-back echo vocal and makes totally amazing jams. I have to admit this track below titled "BTSTU" had me floored and enamored, and its originality screams “I know i'm good”.
I hope it does the same for you!

"Iamamiwhoami"

All right. First, this viral video series is a hole in one. hook line and sinker. Because when it comes to catching the attention of some key demographics, there is nothing like a mysterious lady singing creepy lyrics on top of or complimenting even more bizarre melodies, and even further into the unknown, dark and freaky visuals. WOW! alright heres what this unbeatable and brilliantly good public relations campaign is...

Bjorn Orrenius, formerly the Foreign and Starcom, and now own a consultant in the advertising industry, is also a big fan of electronic music. He runs the site ihavesynth.com and revealed along with his colleague Ulf Dufwenberg the sender of the mysterious video clips online, the first one under the title of "Iamamiwhomi". All the videos released have complex and numerically mysterious titles.
Video 1: Prelude 699130082.451322-5.4.21.3.1.20.9.15.14.1.12
Video 2: 9.1.13.669321018
Video 3: 9.20.19.13.5.723378
Video 4: 13.1.14.4.18.1.7.15.18.1.1110
Video 5: 15.6.6.9.3.9.14.1.18.21.13.56155
Video 6: 23.5.12.3.15.13.5-8.15.13.5.3383

There have been many rumors on sites like Pitchfork and Gorilla vs.bear- and many others- have believed that one of the great american pop stars that have been in the spot light recently, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, or Lady Gaga are behind the films with the white painted woman who seems to be mocking and trying the bounds of the music industry.

But after this final video it is clear that it is the Swedish singer Jonna Lee who is behind the successful coup. ...Take a watch...

Thoughts? is the Street Index on track with the thoughts of the status quo?

I Have Been Chosen…

After over a year of following SI it is finally my turn to bestow my street knowledge on the world of the inter web. I have decided that street index is the best blog there is and I promise to only improve and add to the quality and selection that SI offers.

So anyway, this is my friend Abby's work, she is a very environmentally conscious human so she did some engaging graffiti to try to improve awareness.

One Life Stand is available to purchase now from all retailers including iTunes.

Hot Chip- "I Feel Better"

Whats pixilated and has a population of 8.3 Million?

Imagine New York City (and the boroughs) as an adventure-scape of the 8-bit world from your old-school Nintendo days.

MIT alum, Brett Camper puts the pixel treatment on a Google Map of the 5 boroughs of New York. In this incredible mashup parks, water, some notable landmarks and roads take on such a blocky NES map look like RPGs of yesteryear. If only you could be able to assemble a team of adventurers and storm the island exploring side streets and neighborhoods, plundering its riches!

New vid: jj- "Let Go"

video for jj's "Let Go" directed by Marcus Söderlund (C) Sincerely Yours February 2009

I just gotta post this new Gaga Vid...

Dir: Jonas Akerlund
The "Telephone" clip is a big-budget, pop masterwork from an artist clearly familiar with the discipline -- remember the "Bad Romance" video? And every aspect of the "Telephone" clip was meticulously planned by the pop star herself from the nods to movies such as Thelma and Louise, Kill Bill, and Sin City to the product placement to the inyourface stereotype of Japanese tv. Let SI know what your thoughts are on this video below.

Nu Neon Indian via MtnDew

Coming to you via Mountain Dew's Green Label Sound imprint, fully professional chillwave band of artists Neon Indian just dropped a new single called "Sleep Paralysist" and that shit is all over the internet. And even though Neon mastermind, Alan Palomo, produced the song with Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor, it's still got that 80s-video-game vibe that made his Psychic Chasms LP such a G-Dang winner!

KiD CuDi - Pursuit Of Happiness (feat. MGMT & Ratatat) [Alternate Video]

This video is now one of my favorite videos. After my first watch, I took some time to make sense of what is going on. Why does this video make me feeling drunk or high? I believe it has to do with clever cuts and mind tricks.
In the video something bizarre always happens to Cudi at a point where our mind thinks it knows where it is going and what should happen next. For example when picking up the glass of milk; in normal cinema the director would establish the shot and then go in on a close up of him slipping the refreshing, cold milk. This is what we expect because its is so very common. however in this video it cuts to the milk spilling. this confuses our senses and makes us feel drunk. same goes with any other shot in the video that make you feel slightly funny. also some very clever set design comes into play :)

MGMT Single: "Flash Delirium"

Well it's the beginning. Is it the end?
... NAW... just playing with you. much love for them...
The new MGMT track "Flash Delirium" has been released to the masses today via their website, and it's... unique. Some parts have Flutes, horns, and a few different sections that reference that doo-wop, old school driving on the open road rock'n'roll, and it is very catchy in others (mass chorus/wall of sound parts). It's not nearly as good as their hits, but I think it gets more interesting with more review. The track is from MGMT's new album, Congratulations, out April 13 on Columbia. Take a listen, below.
