Booty rocking. Show stopping.
Thunderheist was formed by mistake. The two members meet after the DJ (G Zilla)accidentally sent the singer (Isis) a track he was working on. She liked it so much that she wrote a rap for it. Isis is Nigerian born and has done giggs with Dead Prez, T.I. and many other hip-hop artists. G Zilla has DJed with and for Prodigy, The Herbaliser, The X-Ecutioners, Kid Koala, DJ Food, DJ Vadim, Jurassic 5, Chromeo and Flosstradamus.

The "About Us" page on the bands website describes them best
"Stealing thunder so you move that ass, the duo dubbed Thunderheist unleash serious electro-pop with heavy boom bap party funk. Ribcage rattling bass breaks laced with proper rhyming are flipped with digital booty bass, 80s- inspired electronic pop, and slowed down Southern bounce, all fresh dipped in serious swagger."

Amazing Video
Directed by Ben Zeitlin and produced by the folks over at Court 13, the film Glory at Sea is a fable of such exorbitantly epic proportions that it could only be described as Grandiose. This extremely emotional gesture is crammed into a 25 minute running time.
This short film is about a man who comes back alive, in a post Katrina world, to lead a bunch of lost souls back to sea to meet their destiny.
Because the film is what it is (possibly an recollection of the ancient Greek myth of the ferry crossing the river styx to get to the land of the dead) racing at breakneck speeds to catch-up with modern times, I find this to be a very powerful piece indeed...Because this isn’t your traditional narrative, at times it's hard to follow, but at all the other times the film isn’t just appropriate but pretty much necessary.
Fun Fact: The Glory at Sea theme song composed by Benh Zeitlin and Dan Romer was used as the theme for the final days of Barack Obama's US presidential campaign.

Natalie Portman's Shaved Head
It wouldn't be entirely wrong to describe Seattle-based band Natalie Portman's Shaved Head as silly. But it wouldn't be entirely right. Although their name is silly, their music is seriously cool. Playing addictive dancey electro-pop containing the best parts of the '80s: synthesized hook tracks and The B-52's styled lyrics. Their album is called Glistening Pleasure... that's so bomb.

Wee figures
The street is the context for this artists work. Slinkachu leaves wee little hand painted figures in various London locales and then photographs the results for his ’Little People‘ project. the work aims to highlight the overwhelming feeling of isolation and loneliness which afflicts much of today's society and to reflect upon the condition of anonymity that some feel comes with living in the modern city. The figures themselves are wonderful, but seeing their scale against the world around them is truly kinda heartbreaking. Enjoy...

The art of Vicki Dasilva
What makes her work fascinating is that the effort isn’t apparent, only the skill. Most of her locations are outdoors and they suggest a consciously formed clash between the natural and the artificial, the dark and the light. She uses the words ‘light graffiti’ and ‘light painting’ to describe her work and the terms couldn’t be more fitting. She doesn’t just break through that invisible fourth wall; she leaves her tag all over it. Find more of her art here at her website

K-Billy's Super Sounds of the 70's weekend just keeps on... truckin'
A very interesting video short from Brazilian directing duo 300ml in which a man (Selton Mello) explains his unified field theory of Quentin Tarantino to a skeptical friend (Seu Jorge, of "The Life Aquatic" and "City of God"). It all takes place, naturally, in a diner. Enjoy...

Welcome to the Machine
Elephants Dream is the world’s first open movie, made entirely with open source graphics software such as Blender, and with all production files freely available to use however you please, under a Creative Commons license. The short film was created by the Orange Open Movie Project studio in Amsterdam during 2005/2006, bringing together a diverse team of artists and developers from all over the world. About the film from the films' website

"Elephants Dream is the story of two strange characters exploring a capricious and seemingly infinite machine. The elder, Proog, acts as a tour-guide and protector, happily showing off the sights and dangers of the machine to his initially curious but increasingly skeptical protege Emo. As their journey unfolds we discover signs that the machine is not all Proog thinks it is, and his guiding takes on a more desperate aspect."

Micky is that you?
The artists contributing to the collaborative effort dubbed "BLOC28" were inspired by Disney characters as kids, so they wanted to see how Mickey could be reinterpreted... personally, this is crazy and takes a good amount of time to break through my interpretation of the animated character we have all come to know and love. In the end, I found most of the art found on this site visually sick, twisted, crazy, etc... and not very appealing at this time. Maybe I hold this iconic character and its history at to high a standard... but these artists claim to be telling a story and that's where I have trouble expanding my mind. Is it what Micky has some dark past? is a strung out addict? Take a look here and tell me you think?
Start your week with some cultured fun...

Swedish Female Invasion
+Warning+ If you like dancey-pop music with female vocals all of these artists will exceed expectations.
Swedish pop has maintained a presence on the international music scene since the early 1960s, when The Spotnicks hit the charts in the states. the rise of ABBA in the 1970s marked the beginning of one of the greatest pop groups of all time. In recent years Swedish indie artists have played an important role in the music industry. Some claim an important component in this contemporary success is in part due to the inclination of swedes to embrace new trends quickly, whether it is in music, fashion or film. Something else that some claim sets Sweden apart from many other countries is that most Swedes speak English fairly well, which also means that a majority of the Swedish artists who succeed abroad sing in English. The first to burst from this Swedish bubble is Robyn, a young talent, signing with a major label at the age of 18.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last few years increased access to the internet has also played a decisive role; many Swedish musicians have chosen to use this worldwide medium to disseminate their music and become famous. Lykke Li has Myspace to thank for her breakthrough.
Lykke Li has lived in a bunch of places but calls Sweden her home. Her breakout hit, “Little Bit” really made people notice her and put her on their radar. The good news is, the album is out (so go buy it)...
-----------------------------------------------------------
Next is a band titledThe Knife. Their second album Silent Shout was voted the number one Album of the Year in 2006.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Finally I present to you the college girls who make up Those Dancing Days first also attracted a fan base for their dance friendly music on the internets...

Cultural Art
Joshua Callaghan is an L.A.-based artist who uses his education in cultural anthropology and the fine arts to create clever installations that serve as both art and a way to disguise undesirable city objects such as utility boxes. Check it out...
Like any self hating artist in the States, he is also a critique of American material culture. for his most recent exhibition at the bank gallery in LA, Callaghan pulled together found material to create abstract sculptures of graphs and charts mapping a variety of data. He uses both the found artifacts and the numbers to create a minimalist device by which to measure human behavior and culture. There are also some political undertones found in his work eluding to world population or world military spending.
(Right) Very Concerned, Somewhat concerned, Not at All Concerned, wood, paint, 4"x12"x50"
(Left)Military Spending by Nation, painted wood
