Osang Gwon works between the fields of photography and sculpture. His style, enlists a painstaking method of utilizing photography along with Styrofoam sculpture to bring together the 2-D world of photography with that of the 3-D world of sculptures. Gwon plays with representations of reality and truth that come from working with these two mediums.
The process begins when a subject is captured on film, rendered, and reconstructed through the overlaying of the developed photographs onto the sculpture. Now, this is the cool part. The prints are used to depict the corresponding physiology and clothing of the subject and work to form an illusion of surface and tangibility. Often the figures are depicted in surreal and contorted poses. This may create an unsettling impression because what you see in front of you isn't in the form it should be.
