---> So many to chose from on this one... turned out to be simply a collection of excellent music produced this year (and I believe without the help of a major label)
Hope you all have enjoyed the 5 volumes of music and music videos... so long 2009...
Alright folks, this is the end of the first full year of Street Index posts! So, here is volume 1 of 5, TOP 10 lists of our favorite music and music videos of this past year. Volume 1 is music videos!
The Ghostvillage Project was created over 3 days on the west coast of Scotland. 6 artists - Timid, Remi/Rough, System, Stormie Mills, Juice 126, Derm - were given free reign to paint in an abandoned 1970s village. Working together on huge collaborative walls and individually in hidden nooks and crannies all over the site the artists realised long held dreams and were inspired by the bleakness and remoteness of the site. Drawing on the history of the village the artists' stated intent on completion of the project was to populate the ghostvillage with the art and characters that it deserved.
Just Blaze was feeling generous on Tony Touch’s show, and played Jay Electronica's "Exhibit C". Popped it off, more like. Jay MERKS the entire thing... 3rd verse, don't even think about listening to it with out grabbing your head.
Day 2 was chiptastic: I, Cactus/ Nullsleep/ Rainbowdragoneyes + the most regrettable decision! Previous to going on Friday, NY1 was on the tv, and what pops up? oh well just a special report on the international festival taking place in our wonderful city! I now present to you the first word of the wise; Blip tip #1: Be prepared for some Nerd-Moshing!!!! I mean this festival represents something that is unseen and brings together a range of interpretations but for the most part tonight was made for uncontrollable crazy android-esq movement. Caught the very end of little-scale, an excellent, excellent utilization of chip technology in my ears. He actually has a rendering of his set list (not a live taping but the man has to practice his art!) from his blog, get it here.
Moving forward I, Cactus was next. A simple looking fellow with a studded sleeveless jean jacket, however his music was not simple. Its weird how you can produce something so complex and have so many people understand it and appreciate your work. His set covered a broad range of musical styles, themes and emotions, but mostly it was just filled with badassitude. It was great that after he was done working on some beat or tampering with the file or running the sound through some synth or reverb his reaction was a sign to what we could be hearing in about 1 second. when the song would loop, and we would hear the creation, which were stunning, and at times, humorous (looping lyrics to say vulgar or funny things is always a good time).
The Heavy hitter Nullsleep was next, and not to disappoint he got it off the ground fast with some pretty dark and hard hitting chiptunage. The room, filled with darkness and incarnadine hues matched his sound perfectly which really soldered the audience to his bit propaganda...
...The video is cut short due to some serious movement amongst the crowd. Also if anyone knows what this song is please leave a comment. It was amazing, brought the data demons out of everyone. Rainbowdragoneyes (pictured first) was next and I had no idea what to expect. I had never listened to his stuff let alone heard of his work. But my expectations had to be high with an alias like that! This guy literally pressed play and started head banging and dancing around the stage and getting the crowed amped up, it was absolutely insane! When I got home I went on the to Blipfest website and saw they had done a quick interview with him, one answer really but his set into perspective...
I like to party a lot. I hate a lot of things, especially boring music, so I try to always write stuff that makes my brain explode
. HAHAHAHA, yup, my brain exploded... especially when he played some hi-fi music.
Alright so time for Blip tip #2: don't leave early! I did and boy did I miss out when I woke up this morning to find this...
It's the opening sequence for the Covox and Random project CONDOM... Total facial, LaFleur. Damn! Blip tip #3: If its snowing, go anyway! Day 3 never materialized for me so this is the end.
Ill have some videos from Saturday performances from some of my favorite- Bubblyfish, Bit Shifter, and PSILODUMP... as they surface on the web.
If you didn't make it this year, make it your new years resolution!
Alright chipsters, Day 1 was a blipping blast. Minus Baby, Chromix, Albino Ghost Monkey- all stellar, stellar acts. Getting to the Bell House was easy and quite an adventure. Blip fest is hidden behind a swanky looking bar area... but as you snake your way through the back you start encountering people and kiosks of chip merchandise and as you enter through a set of double fire doors it hits you. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 bits of music, wow! If you enjoy listening to this music, then you would have had a grin on your mug from one ear to the other. I just couldn't believe I was here...
...Walking through the crowd you realize it is a very modest space and the people in attendance are just as modest as well, however, ask them about the music and they lose their reserve. Blip fest is for the true and stalwart fans. In the corner lounge of the space there were a group of 3 dudes just typing away on their laptops. They are Gaijin & Robotube and they we're challenged to create 'a game in a day'. by the time I walked in they had the matrix already set up and base game play implemented all that was left was the soundtrack. Can't wait to get there tonight, bright and early...

Video has some great shots, well thought out, sharp cuts with some Cameos by Drake and Consequence. Below, a brand new track from Kid Cudi which is a freestyle on some track I never heard before... two things are true about this track... 1)His flow is murderous 2)His flow is relentless

Here we have some of Scottland's own Hostage, served up on a silver plater complete with glow stix. The menacing back track just reeks of Norse Mythology, lol. Damn, I don't even know. Fuck shit up to this one fam... Hostage- "Valhalla”
I believe that filming in slow motion (overcranking is what us fancy film people call it) is not used enough. It really captures the full emotion of a scene and lets you see littlest things in a shot scenes that you normally wouldn't see otherwise. Slow motion is beautiful to me and I really want to try and shoot more movie shorts that way.
ps- if you shoot actors in slow mo, they should be really good, and the actor in this video is.
Flying Lotus takes on Lil Wayne Again, this time doing something totally awesome with one of Weezy's darkest songs...the drugged-out "I Feel Like Dying" and he makes it even more terrifying and insane. Listen at FlyLo's myspace...
So when I first heard this song, I wasn't really a fan. However This is a great music video and in turn made me like the song much more. The video has a great story line and is also very visually appealing. I must admit I have been studying this music video for the past 24 hrs. Its amazing that it is filmed in one set, but with the various lighting and camera set ups they use, it looks like 5 different white sets. I give this video 5 stars
I mean Clipse isn't my favorite, but this thing right here! DAAAAMMMMMMNNNNN
I said this thing right here is freaky fly. Clipse and Cam kill it.... check it out...
This is the best music by Weezy in a long time. It brings me back to the old Wayne of my high school days. After he started using auto-tune, I thought he was going down in quality and I started to dislike his new music. It was horrible! however he is back, no autotune, and more then enough ridiculous rhymes and metaphors that made me love Lil Wayne in the very beginning. Enjoy! Download it here
While CMJ Marathon takes over downtown, you should sneak away and head over to Chinatown for a 3-day MeanRed marathon at 88 Palace — good music, good food and good people.

Twisted... but Kanye is a pretty good at acting drunk and in your face and then feeling sorry... hmmmm... anyway its long but well shot (directed and shot by the man, Spike Jones) so you know you have got to watch it!
The Blip Festival, now one of the worlds largest and longest running events of its kind, continues to evolve with a greater breadth of international artists, a growing sophistication of styles and creative vocabulary, and a forward-thinking enthusiasm driven home by over two dozen of the worlds best musicians and visualists.
Ok this is great. A dismal day has given way to a glimmer of light in the music of Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros. How epic is their music? Epic... and fun... and exhilarating. The group hails from LA and belong to the triad of Community Music / Fairfax Recordings / Rough Trade recordings. NPR calls them "a hippie version of Arcade Fire" because they have a band of characters on stage, but I don't know. 3 more band members has no bearing on their classification as a travelling band of hippies. Their presence is no different than Architecture in Helsinki or I'm From Barcelona, but I do agree their music is very much like Arcade fire circa Funeral. Along with their music, defiantly hit up their Myspace to watch the most crazy video for "Desert Song: pt. 1", which is also a great song. The bizzar opening footage is of lead singer Alex Ebert's father chanting in Monument Valley and the reason it's part one is because they want you to stay tuned for the 11 other episodes! Below, check out a mp3 for one of my favorites, the whimsical "Home", a live performance on Letterman of "Home" (circa early September I believe), and some tour dates to come. Also their debut album Up From Below just came out in July of this year so get that too! Enjoy~
Cold weather sucks...Which pool party would you rather be attending this weekend? click image to partake in moving pictures portraying each scene come to life!
Halloween is soon so I thought that juxtaposed to this video you view this post as providing you with some makeup ideas... don't listen to what DOD has for you, bc then your face will be painted by supernatural forces brought on by the music.
Native Jamaican, Stockholm based Mikey Mic has been out there slangin' in cities all over the world for some time now. He’s played along side big names like Axwell, Guetta and Flo Rida to name a few. To get a taste of Mikey Mic, here’s his brand new unofficial remix of Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys- Empire State of Mind, gritty, twitchy club all up in here.
this remix is absolutely BRUTAL!!! Hard hitting but it seems very rough on the production side, I don't know. The fade out before the club banger kicks in is sick. enjoy~!
This video is a very cool mix of animation and live action, plus the song is good. couldn't find a embed but hit up the link and get the song! >>>>>>>>>>>>here<<<<<<<<<<
