--Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros--

Ok this is great. A dismal day has given way to a glimmer of light in the music of Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros. How epic is their music? Epic... and fun... and exhilarating. The group hails from LA and belong to the triad of Community Music / Fairfax Recordings / Rough Trade recordings. NPR calls them "a hippie version of Arcade Fire" because they have a band of characters on stage, but I don't know. 3 more band members has no bearing on their classification as a travelling band of hippies. Their presence is no different than Architecture in Helsinki or I'm From Barcelona, but I do agree their music is very much like Arcade fire circa Funeral. Along with their music, defiantly hit up their Myspace to watch the most crazy video for "Desert Song: pt. 1", which is also a great song. The bizzar opening footage is of lead singer Alex Ebert's father chanting in Monument Valley and the reason it's part one is because they want you to stay tuned for the 11 other episodes! Below, check out a mp3 for one of my favorites, the whimsical "Home", a live performance on Letterman of "Home" (circa early September I believe), and some tour dates to come. Also their debut album Up From Below just came out in July of this year so get that too! Enjoy~
