Shorpy!
Shorpy is a website that is truly amazing. As a History nerd my spare time is almost always filled with HD images of the past. Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. So the images on this site offer a simple fraction of the HD goodness that is made available from the archiving technology that is out there today. The online archive contains thousands of high-resolution photos from the 1850s to 1950s. Their namesake, Shorpy Higginbotham, was a teenage coal miner who lived 100 years ago.
